LAIKA, the Visit Downtown Campaign, Wild in Art, and OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital are thrilled to announce that the auction of the Coraline Cat Statues that drew crowds to downtown Portland since August of this year has raised $324,500.

Award-winning studio LAIKA is expanding its live action slate with an original film written by Oscar®-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts (Dune, Passengers, Doctor Strange), who makes his directorial debut with this sci-fi thriller. Coraline returned to theaters around the world for its 15th Anniversary in newly remastered 3D for a special limited engagement that started August 15th. In partnership with Fathom in the U.S. and Trafalgar Releasing internationally, the film is offered in stunning, newly remastered 3D as well as 2D formats.

Converse and LAIKA are teaming up again, this time to offer a unique collection of footwear and apparel inspired by the studio’s Oscar®-nominated, fan-favorite film Coraline.

Award-winning animation studio LAIKA, known for Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Missing Link, has built its global reputation on an impressive series of “firsts.” Coraline was the first stop-motion animated film ever shot in stereoscopic 3D and LAIKA was the first animation studio to win an Oscar® for its innovation in rapid prototyping, among other pioneering achievements. Now comes another first to introduce the female protagonist of LAIKA’s sixth film, Wildwood, currently in production outside Portland, Oregon and expected to be released in 2025.

Award-winning studio LAIKA is bolstering its Live Action slate by acquiring Crumble, an original script by Brian Duffield (Spontaneous, No One Will Save You), who will direct. Oscar® winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller as well as Aditya Sood will produce through their Lord Miller banner. Duffield will also produce. Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida from Lord Miller will serve as executive producers.

The BFI today announces details of LAIKA: FRAME x FRAME, a free exhibition that will showcase the boundary pushing art and science behind the studio’s five epic films, at BFI Southbank from 12 August – 1 October 2024. This narrative-rich experience will honour the stories of LAIKA and the unparalleled level of detail in the physical puppets, intricately crafted sets, costumes and awe-inspiring props – some never before seen – from LAIKA’s vast production archives. The exhibition is presented alongside STOP MOTION: CELEBRATING HAND-CRAFTED ANIMATION ON THE BIG SCREEN, supported by Headline Partner LAIKA, a major new season taking place at BFI Southbank from 1 August - 9 October with free film screenings for children under 16.

LAIKA has acquired the international best-selling fantasy novel Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. LAIKA’s President & CEO Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee) will direct the animated feature film. A New York Times and Sunday Times best-seller with over four million copies sold, Piranesi was awarded the 2021 Women’s Prize for Fiction.

LAIKA is bolstering its expansion into live-action by naming longtime Netflix executive Matt Levin as President, Live-Action Film & Series. In addition to being in production on its sixth animated movie Wildwood, the studio is currently developing its first ever live-action project, a film based on acclaimed screenwriter John Brownlow’s (The Miniaturist, Sylvia) action thriller novel Seventeen.

LAIKA and the Museum of Pop Culture today announced a new exhibition that will showcase the creativity, artistry, and innovation that make the studio a global leader in stop motion animation. Visitors will be immersed in the “hidden worlds” of LAIKA — both the magical settings the characters inhabit and the behind-the-scenes wonders of producing these modern classics.

In honor of the 10th Anniversary of the theatrical release of ParaNorman, LAIKA is partnering with Topaz Farm for an autumnal Corn Maze inspired by the Academy Award®-nominated stop-motion comedy thriller. This homegrown partnership combines the world-class characters of ParaNorman and the groundbreaking regenerative farming practices of the family-owned and operated Topaz Farm. The Grand Opening of the ParaNorman 10th Anniversary Corn Maze at Topaz Farm is set for Saturday, October 1, 2022.

LAIKA President & CEO Travis Knight today announced the voice cast for Wildwood, the Oscar®, BAFTA® and Golden Globe® winning animation studio’s next feature film.

LAIKA, the studio known for the Academy Award®-nominated films Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and Missing Link, today announced an ambitious new project in conjunction with Bill Dubuque, creator of Netflix’s hit series Ozark. LAIKA’s CEO & President Travis Knight, who directed Kubo and the Two Strings and Paramount’s Bumblebee, will direct from Dubuque’s original screenplay.

LAIKA, whose five films (Missing Link, Kubo and the Two Strings, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman and Coraline) have all received Oscar® nominations for Best Animated Film, will partner with the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI) for multiple screenings of all its films as well as filmmaker discussions and a display of puppets and sets this October. LAIKA’s next animated feature film is Wildwood, based on the bestselling novel written by Colin Meloy, lead singer and songwriter for The Decemberists, and illustrated by artist Carson Ellis. The announcement was made today by Travis Knight, President & CEO of the award-winning animation studio, who will direct the film. Wildwood is currently in production at LAIKA’s facility outside Portland, Oregon.
