EVR Products, an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer of engineered rubber products, has expanded its lineup of rubber duckbill check valves to cover a broader range of pipe configurations and line sizes used in municipal wastewater, stormwater, and industrial process systems. The expanded range is documented on the company's website and includes slip-on, flanged, jacketed, in-line flanged, and in-pipe configurations.

The company now lists five primary valve series alongside a dedicated wastewater and stormwater model. The Series CPO connects directly to a pipe end without external components, while the Series CPF mounts between existing pipe flanges using a full-faced rubber flange. The Series CPJ provides an alternative flanged configuration, and the Series CPI incorporates an integral full-faced rubber flange for in-line installation.

Rounding out the range, the Series CPI-IN is held in place by an expandable 316 stainless steel internal clamp, allowing installation inside an existing pipe where external flange access is limited. The EVR-MwStop model, developed specifically for wastewater and stormwater outfalls, is offered in sizes up to DN1800.

Sizing across the flanged series extends to a 72-inch internal diameter. The largest documented CPF unit carries a 97-inch face-to-face dimension and a shipping weight of approximately 1,480 pounds, placing it among the larger elastomeric backflow prevention devices specified for outfall and discharge applications.

Duckbill check valves operate as passive backflow prevention devices. Line pressure from upstream flow opens the elastomeric bill, and the bill closes under reverse pressure or when forward flow stops. Because the mechanism relies on the elasticity of the rubber body rather than hinges, springs, or actuators, the valves require no external power sources and contain no moving mechanical parts to break down or jam.

That design characteristic is central to how the products are specified, according to the company. Municipal outfalls, lift station discharge lines, and industrial effluent piping often carry sewage, sludge, slurries, and other corrosive or abrasive media that foul hinged flap gates and metal-seated check valves over time. Elastomeric valve bodies are also used to reduce the slamming and water hammer associated with rapid mechanical closure.

"Operators are dealing with media that punishes anything with a hinge pin or a metal seat, and they are dealing with it in locations that are difficult and expensive to reach," said Gary Waldick, Vice President of EVR Products. "Broadening the configurations means a specifying engineer can match the valve to the pipe that already exists, rather than modifying the pipe to accept the valve. In a retrofit on a live outfall, that distinction decides whether a project takes an afternoon or a shutdown."

The expanded lineup reflects demand from utilities managing aging collection systems and increased stormwater volume. Backflow of receiving water into an outfall line can cause surcharging, sediment intrusion, and damage to upstream infrastructure, and many jurisdictions have moved to address combined sewer overflow and inflow and infiltration issues as part of broader capital renewal programs.

Material selection remains a central part of the specification process. Elastomer compounds are selected according to the chemistry, temperature, and abrasion profile of the service, while 316 stainless steel is used for clamping components exposed to submerged and saline conditions. The company manufactures to ISO 9001 quality management standards.

"The engineering work happens before anything is manufactured, in the conversation about what is actually flowing through that pipe," Waldick said. "Two outfalls a few kilometers apart can require different compounds. Getting that right is what determines service life."

EVR Products is based in Sudbury, Ontario, and manufactures rubber expansion joints, duckbill check valves, pinch valves, rubber hose, and custom elastomer products for the water and wastewater, mining, pulp and paper, power generation, and general industrial markets. The company supplies municipalities, engineering consultants, contractors, and distributors across North America and internationally.

Technical documentation for each series, including dimensional data, headloss characteristics, and material options, is available through the company. Specifying engineers and utility operators seeking application assistance can contact the company directly for review of service conditions.
